The Quinta is a quality touristic project, surrounded by a natural and rural environment, in perfect harmony with the local country life, which offers everything one might need for a peaceful and healthy visit. The Quinta premises are located in the village of Arco de São Jorge on the North Coast of the Island. It is in a large area of vineyard terraces, surrounded by mountainous slopes and the Atlantic Ocean. This is an excellent base point to discover the entire northern coast and the "Laurissilva" forest by foot or by car.

The Quinta is divided in two separate but related areas - the Accommodation Area, with its 18 small and independent villas in an atmosphere which is welcoming, rural, private and surrounded by the beauty of its luxuriant gardens and the Rose Garden with an Exhibition of Roses.   This magnificent site deserves more than just an overnight stay. The houses on the Quinta are, without a doubt synonymous with beauty, peacefulness and harmony, allowing you to experience nature far from the bustle of big cities. The Rose Garden is a unique example of patrimony, with the biggest collection of roses in Portugal, which provides you with an unparalleled experience of beauty that only the Queen of Flowers can provide, in a true symphony of colours and perfume.

As not everyone is familiar with the concept of the Portuguese word Quinta, we would like to say that it has many romantic and mysterious connotations.   Historically Quintas have been a kind of property associated to the Portuguese aristocracy and influential or wealthy members of society and evoke a life of abundance. At its simplest however, a Quinta is a portion of land for sowing and cultivation. There are other definitions such as: a rural property with a country house surrounded by fields and trees, within a defined and usually walled space. This Quinta is most aptly described by this last definition.

Equipped with private phone with local and international access and cable TV, each villa, with the approximate living area of 40/60m², has a porch with table and chairs, hammock and a small private garden.   It comprises 1 twin or double room, with the possibility of accommodating one family member on the lounge sofa bed in the living room, where one also finds a heating stove for any colder days, a fully equipped kitchen with all the necessary domestic appliances and instruments necessary for your stay. A cot for babies is also provided if requested.

Bedroom, bathroom and living room will be cleaned and tidied every day, except on Sundays. If required, you will find enough fire wood for a few hours provided in the basket. You can refill the basket when needed, from the wood supply provided, near the reception.

Within the premises you will also find a common lounge with a self-service bar, a small library, TV, video, stereo Hi-fi and snooker table.

There is a 12x6m open-air swimming pool. Since it is not heated, the water temperature is more pleasant during the spring and summer time.   There is also a private parking area.

The staff will remain at the Quinta from 9.00 am till 8.00 pm. Check-in until 8.00 pm.

Breakfast includes milk, coffee, tea, jam, cheese, free-range eggs, and fresh bread that will be placed daily in a bag outside your door. No fresh bread on Sundays. Self preparation.

You can buy some of the essential goods necessary for preparing meals here at Arco de São Jorge. But if you are looking forward to total rest there is our Tea House or the "Snack Bar Arco" that serve tasty meals and also provides a take-away service.

Arco de São Jorge is a unique village by the seaside, surrounded by mountains and vineyards, located in the northeast of the island with a population of 520 inhabitants. Besides São Jorge village, the land of Arco de São Jorge is also very fertile and able to host many types of agricultural product due to its microclimate.

Its first settlers were known to be from the Algarve and Minho, Portugal. Originally this small village was once part of São Jorge then on December 28, 1676 Arco de São Jorge became a civil parish, deriving its name from the surrounding arc shaped mountains. While visiting the village, make sure you drop by Quinta do Arco Rosarium garden with its large collection of roses from Portugal.

From Jürgen, Germany, November 2007 Weitläufige Anlage mit wunderschönen Häusern und einem Potanischen Garten der einmalig ist. Freundliches und sehr hilfsbereites Personal. In der Anlage gibt es nur eine Selfservicebar, die allerdings sehr gut eingerichtet ist. Alle wichtigen Gertänke vorhanden. Zudem enthält sie noch Billard, Stereoanlage mit CD, Sitzgruppen, Fernseher, DVD Player, sowie eine riesige Auswahl an Büchern und Zeitschriften. 2 romantische Pools mit Sitzgelegenheiten, aber keine Liegen. Das war für uns eigentlich das beste am Anlage überhaupt. Sehr schön eingerichtete Häuser mit allem was dazugehört. Komplette Kücheneinrichtung, Mikrowelle, Toaster, Kaffeemaschine, Gasherd, Eierkocher usw. Schön gestalteter Wohnbereich mit Sitzgruppe und Holzoffen. Wendeltreppe zum Schlafzimmer und WC. Aufrechtes duschen ist aber auf Grund der Dachschräge nicht möglich. Kein Kleiderschrank vorhanden. Das Anlage mit Ferienhäusern kann man ruhesuchenden Gästen nur empfehlen. Wie schon gesagt, der Garten mit seinen unzähligen Obstbäumen, tropischen Planzen und Rosen, sowie seinen wünderschön gestalteten Gehwegen ist ein Traum. Für junge Leute die Unterhaltung wollen, ein Alptraum.
From Felice, Germany, April 2007 Eine sehr schöne Anlage mit einzelstehenden kleinen Häuschen. In der unteren Etage ist ein kombinierter Wohnraum mit Küche und Esstisch. Eine Wendeltreppe führt zur ersten Etage mit Schlafraum und Badezimmer. Das eingeschlossene Frühstück besteht aus: Butter und Milch im Kühlschrank, Marmelade und Honig und zwei Einweckgläsern mit Kaffee und Kakao, die täglich aufgefüllt werden. Von den anderen Gästen haben wir nicht sehr viel mitbekommen. Als Nationalitäten sind uns Deutsche und Portugiesen begegnet. Die weitläufige Anlage befindet sich am Ortsrand (Richtung Santana). Im Ort ist kein Supermarkt. Nur ein kleiner "Tante Emma-Laden". Kleinere Lebensmittelgeschäfte befinden sich in Santana. Wir waren in einem sehr guten Restaurant am anderen Ende des Ortes (Richtung S. Vincente). Für diese Anlage ist ein Auto ein muß. Die Transferbeschreibung führte uns in Richtung Ribeira Brava und über die Küstenstraße von S. Vincente nach Arco de Sao Jorge. An einen Abschnitt ist die Straße eine kleine Strecke nur Einspurig. Nicht unbedingt Jedermanns Sache. Die Strecke Machicco / Santana nach Sao Jorge ist wesentlich besser. Zeitlich sind die Strecken gleich (ca. 1 Stunde). Der Check in war sehr locker und einfach. Sehr freundliches Personal. Sprache war allerdings Englisch. Für uns jezt kein Problem. Aber ich denke, daß Hände und Füße auch ausgereicht hätten. Die Häuser waren sauber. Auch - oder vor allen Dingen - war das Bad immer sauber. Sehr erfreulich fanden wir, daß die Reinigung immer dann erfolgte, nachdem wir das Haus bereits verlassen hatten. "Beschweren" mußten wir uns nur einmal, als die Handücher im Bad fehlten. Es wurde unverzüglich Abhilfe geschaffen. Das Toilettenpapier wurde sehr spärlich aufgefüllt. Letzendlich mußten wir uns dies (sicherheitshalber) selber im Supermarkt kaufen. Als "Besonderes" muß unbedingt erwähnt werden, daß in jedem Haus ein kleiner Ofen im Wohnzimmer steht. Da die Nächte recht kühl waren, konnte man sehr schön für Wärme (und Romantik) sorgen. Das Brennholz wurde jeden Tag aufgefüllt! Ohne Zusatzkosten!! Das gegenüber der Anlage liegende Restaurant wurde nie genutzt. Neben der Rezeption ist eine Art Bar mit Billiard-Tisch und Bücherregal. Hier kann man sich Abends noch "einen" genehmigen. Für den Swimming-Pool war es noch etwas zu kalt. Da wir allerdings die Insel und die Menschen kennenlernen wollten, halten wir solch eine "Unterhaltung" im Hotel für überflüssig. Die Größe des Hauses war vollkommen ausreichend. Die Sauberkeit des Gebäudes war o. k. Allerdings war das Geschirr nicht besonders gründlich gespült. Dies mußten wir erstmal alles komplett neu spülen. Aber dafür können die Reinigungskräfte wohl weniger, dies liegt wohl eher an den Vormietern. Die Mobilierung (Couch, Tisch, Stühle etc.) war ebenso in Ordnung. Die Betten waren sehr gut. Vor allem die Matratzen waren erfeulicherweise nicht schon durchgelegen. Leider gab es keinen Kleiderschrank. Allerdings dafür zwei "stumme Diener". Es gab "nur" portugisiche TV-Programme. Aber im Urlaub brauche ich nicht unbedingt deutsches TV. Somit machte dies auch nichts aus. Die Bettwäsche und die Handtücher waren sauber. Die Bettwäsche wurde einmal die Woche gewechselt. Handtücher standen täglich 4 Stück zur Verfügung und wurden bei Bedarf erneuert. Das Badezimmer war groß, allerdings mit schrägen Wänden. Für den Einstieg in die Badewanne muß man allerdings gelenkig sein. Vor der Wanne ist ein ca. tischhohes 80 cm breites Mäuerchen zu überwinden. Wenn man dann allderings über 1, 80 cm groß ist, muß man auf den Kopf achten, da die Schräge auch dort zum tragen kommt. Das Wetter war sehr durchwachsen. Es regnete allerdings nie einen ganzen Tag. Abends war es recht kühl. Allderdings hat dieses Wetter ja auch seine Reize. In Funchal scheint häufiger die Sonne. Die Entfernungen sind auf Madeira nicht sehr groß. Somit ist man auch schnell mal über die Berge. Das Wetter kann dann schon wieder ganz anders aussehen. Apropos Funchal. Eine sehr sehr schöne Stadt. Waren mind. fünf mal dort. Achtung auf dem wünderschönen Gemüsemarkt. Wenn sich keine Preise am Obst und Gemüse befinden, versuchen einige einen über den Tisch zu ziehen. Also erst umschauen, dann kaufen.
