The accommodation is open plan, the lounge, dining area and kitchen to the south, and the bedrooms and bathrooms to the north.
Located in the 5th floor of a residential complex serviced by two lifts, and with a living area of 108 m2, apartment comprises 1 double bedroom with en suite bathroom openning onto the west-facing balcony with sea views, 1 twin bedroom with both sea and mountain views, another bathroom, fully fitted kitchen with a long breakfast bar, living / dining room seating 6, a west facing balcony from lounge an double room, a south facing large terrace, a luggage room to store cases and outdoor walking boots, and private parking space.
Children are allowed, and are safe on the terrace, providing they do not climb over the balcony. There is a short but steep driveway.
Non-smoking property, no pets allowed.
Changeover day is Monday, but we can be flexible. The housekeeper visits on Mondays to prepare the apartment for incoming guests or to refresh linen etc for guests staying more than one week.
Sleeps 4 persons, self catering.
Garajau has long been known to be one of Madeira’s high class residential areas & is named after the black-headed sea birds, terns, which nest in the cliffs.
Just below the town is a 200m high headland with a fine "miradouro" - a statue of Christ with outstretched arms, similar to the larger statues in Rio de Janeiro or Lisbon. This is a wonderful spot to watch the sun go down and it has great views west to the Bay of Funchal.
The coastline here at Garajau is also a conservation area, and was one of Europe’s first underwater nature reserves, providing sanctuary for whales, dolphins and seals. The sea shore has now been updated and opened up with a new cable car to take visitors down onto the beach and a beachfront restaurant.
There are a number of local, Italian and other restaurants and a number of bars within walking distance in Garajau. With the old town of Funchal at the bus terminus in Funchal and the numerous restaurants in Caniço just a bus ride away, there is enormous choice for eating out. Indeed Garajau also has some very good take-away restaurants to facilitate al-fresco dining on the superb private terrace.
Palheiro Golf, 92 par Championship course, with stunning views and unbeatable scenery, is just 10 minutes by car or taxi.
Garajau is also ideal as a location to start the many levada walks in Madeira, and if you require a guide this can be booked with the local hotel.
The coastal area of Caniço de Baixo boasts three world renowned diving schools.
The local hotel welcomes outside guests and only charges a one off small fee for the use of the pool and facilities.
