Tucked away in Cabeceiras de Basto, a village in the north of Portugal, this beautifully restored manor houses a guest house not far from historic Braga. The Port wine producing area is approximately 1 hour drive away and opportunity should be taken to visit the historic centre of Guimarães (40 km), which has UNESCO world heritage status. Porto airport is 80 km distant.

It is a manor house built in the last quarter of the 17th century, with a large agricultural estate. Since its construction, the house has remained in the same family and has been entirely restored some years ago. Traces of different architectonic styles have been preserved during the restoration.

The property has a well maintained traditional garden, a feature of all manor houses of the region. Inside, the house has spacious areas, all beautifully furnished and decorated. In the main house there are two living rooms on the lower floor with television and games table available for guests.

Property offers 4 guest bedrooms (3 twins, 1 double) and 1 suite, all of them with private bathrooms, central heating. Children are welcome. Children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots. All older children or adults are charged EUR 20.00 per night and person for extra beds. Maximum capacity of extra beds/baby cots in a room is 1. Wake up in your traditionally furnished bedroom and make the most of the scenic surroundings.

In the property there is a room containing a remarkable collection of farm artifacts featuring hollow tree trunks used in the past to store cereals. Guests have at their disposal a swimming pool measuring 12 by 6 meters with the depth varying from 1 to 1,7 meters, surrounded by a lawn area,. There is tennis court is in a wooded area approximately 50 meters (164 feet) away from the main house. Next to rental bikes, your hosts can also arrange a game of tennis or a hiking trip.

Casa de Lamas has a 3 hole golf course. The golf academy with dressing room and club house will be soon available. Amarante golf course is about 50 kilometers away.

In Cabeceiras de Basto one finds a considerable number of manour houses dating back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centurties. The town is situated in a region known as the lands of "Basto", its name being linked to the legendary Lusitanian warrior, "Basto", who fought so bravely against the Moorish invaders and was later depicted in a series of granite statues. Such statues were made from what were originally warriors´ tombstones dating back to the period before the Roman occupation (first century BC) and one of them has been placed on a pedestal at the entrance to Cabeceiras de Basto.

The region's development was greatly influenced by the monastery of São Miguel de Refojos, which was founded some time before the twelfth century, and the town was also once known as Refojos do Basto.

The surrounding countryside is extremely beautiful, with clear streams and luxuriant green hills. Particularly impressive is the Park of Moinhos do Rei, which includes the communal windmills of Abadim, commissioned in the 14th century by D. Dinis, the king of Portugal.
