Windmill located in a rural environment of vineyards, with panoramic views, 3 km from Arruda dos Vinhos, 10 km from Alenquer and 25 km north of Lisbon. In Arruda dos Vinhos there are all sorts of shopping facilities, bank, pharmacy, coffee shops, restaurants and supermarket. It is 32 km to the beach at Santa Cruz.

Dating back to 1817, the original windmill core consisting of three floors was extensively renovated and a new area was added to the ground floor, with wide windows providing excellent natural day lighting. It is equipped with air conditioning and with heating in the bedrooms. In the ground floor one finds the entrance hall, a large lounge with wood stove, settees, a sofa bed for 2 persons, TV and dining area, equipped kitchen and 1 shower room; the 1st and 2nd floors accommodate the 2 double rooms. Outside, the private surrounding grounds of 3500 m2 are fenced and invite to open air meals. A BBQ, table and seats are available.

Stairs are not appropriate for persons with movement restrictions or small children alone.

Sleeps 4-6 persons, self catering.

Of Moorish origin, the village of Alenquer was recaptured for the Christians by Dom Afonso Henriques, the first King of Portugal, in the 12th century, in his offensive towards Lisbon, which is only 35 kilometres from Alenquer.

Alenquer is popularly known as the vila-presépio ("crib town"), due to the harmonious layout of its houses on a slope, giving it the shape of an amphitheatre.

Several important figures in the history of Portugal were born in Alenquer, such as Pêro de Alenquer, a 16th century Portuguese navigator who rounded the Cape of Storms (Cape of Good Hope), and Damião de Góis, a great humanist and important figure of the Renaissance in Portugal (17th century).

The main event in this place is the Fair of the Ascension, held annually in May or June (depending on the date of that moveable feast), which attracts many visitors to the region.
