Property owners have two houses in over an acre of land surrounded by open countryside. The larger house is a converted “resinier's” cottage with 3-4 bedrooms and a good sized swimming pool. The second house has 3 bedrooms and its own swimming pool. Both properties are situated in a small hamlet called St Helene de L'Etang about 5 km from Carcans. The houses are close to the largest freshwater lakes in France and the Surfing beaches of the Atlantic. Also close by are the wine regions of the Medoc.

Chez St George is a luxury three bedroom house built in 2000. Most of the rooms have French doors opening onto the patio/garden. The house is centrally heated and has 3 double bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and ensuite shower room. A second bedroom contains new twin beds and a third bedroom has two sets of adult sized bunk beds. There is also a separate bathroom. There is a large well furnished salle de sejour with an open plan luxury fully equipped kitchen. The salle de sejour has a sofa bed and comfy chairs and two sets of French windows opening onto the patio which make it a very attractive, light room. Facilities in the garden include a salt water swimming pool and brick barbecue together with extensive patios round the house (well stocked with garden furniture, including 8 chairs and 4 sun loungers).

Bed linen provided & beds made on arrival. Spare set of linen left for guests. Household towels are provided. Final cleaning included in price.
Cleaning during stay available on request, local fee applies.

Arrive Saturday 4-6pm and depart Saturday by 10am.
Changeover day: Saturday in peak season but there is some flexibility in the off season.

Sleeps 8 persons, self catering.

The tiny hamlet of St Helene de l'Etang consists of nine houses including ours which is at the end of the road opposite a small farm which has camping facilities in the summer. Beyond our houses, the road becomes a sandy track leading to the largest freshwater lake in France (Lac Hourtin) which is accessible on foot (20 minutes) or by bike (10 minutes) but this area of the lake is a nature reserve and the main lake beaches for swimming etc are 10 minutes' drive away at Maubuisson. Very little traffic passes our house making it ideal for children. Wildlife abounds including frogs, toads, rabbits, deer, lizards and a wide range of birds.


Carcans (5 km) has the essential supermarket but also the traditional French shops and local market. The 'cave' is well stocked with Bordeaux wine and there is a very good baker, butcher and fishmonger.


Maubuisson is ten minutes' drive away and there you will find sandy beaches, cafes, restaurants, sailing, wind surfing and safe swimming. Ten minutes beyond Maubuisson is the Atlantic Ocean, with miles of unspoilt beaches and breakers for surfing and invigorating swimming. There is golf, cycling and horse riding within easy driving distance including wonderful cycle tracks from Maubuisson through pine forests to the Atlantic beaches.

St Helene de l'Etang is 12 km from the beach and 35 km from Bordeaux.
