description Description

One of the most spectacular views for Douro Valley, Quinta de Lamelas is a quiet and peaceful place, perfect for a restful holiday. Lamelas is situated amongst high vineyards, olive groves and almond trees at the top of the property. It has one of the most spectacular views in the Douro Valley and is in a remote and tranquil setting.

The house is part of a 135 acres vineyard property, Quinta de La Rosa, owned by a family that has been shipping Port Wine since 1815. It is 2 km from Pinhão, 29 km from Peso da Régua and 136 km from Porto airport. There is a small supermarket, a baker and two butchers in Pinhão where you can buy most things. From the small village of Gouvães there is 1 km of unpaved road until you reach Lamelas. This road is narrow with a vertical drop on one side - not for those who suffer from vertigo but well worth it when you arrive.

The house dates from the 17th century and was restored to the highest standard in 1992 with many original features being retained. Accommodation consists of a double sitting room, with carved and painted ceilings, dining room, 2 twin bedrooms and 1 double bedroom, all having en-suite bathrooms/shower rooms and a large fully equipped kitchen.
The swimming pool (12x4 m) overlooks the Douro Valley and is surrounded by shaded eating area with tables and chairs, barbecue and lawn.

During your stay, join us at La Rosa for the tour and wine tastings or have a meal, upon on previous request, on our terrace overlooking the river.

Sleeps 6 persons, self catering.

edit_location Location - Area

The Douro is a valley, a river, a vineyard, it is wine. Over the river, the human influence, who transformed the slate mountains into country and walls, an epic common effort of making different cultures meet.

Protected from the damp Atlantic hoists by the mountains of Marão and Montemuro, the production area was defined as wine area for the first time in 1757 - the first viticulture regulation of the world - in the northeast of Portugal, between Barqueiros and Mazouco, near the Spanish border. This is the wine country!

The area extends today over 250.000 hectares, whereby however the vineyard takes only 40,000 hectares, deep embedded in the Douro river basin, and in its tributaries: Corgo, Torto, Pinhão, Tua, Côa, amongst others. The entire area is divided in three sub-regions: in the west, the Baixo Corgo, in the centre the Cima Corgo and in the east the Douro Superior - with different microclimatic particularities, however always with cold winters and hot and dry summers.

The combination of these factors, as well as the selective choice of stocks is decisive for the quality and purity of the wines, which are no more than the effect of the harmonious marriage between the earth, the climate and the love and art of humans.

But the Douro is not only vineyard, wine, almonds, olive oil... It is also its people, the wine farmers, who shaped its history and traditions; and the still untouched idyllic Quintas, with their inviting welcome.

But rather than reading about it, you should discover the Port Wine Route with your own eyes.
